On Tuesday afternoon I thought Freaky Running Dog might enjoy a 7k gentle run on what was a lovely wintery afternoon. She didn't. She was pretty freaky, but at least it was 7k for the legs...
The turbo trainer is still fabulous and still in the shed. All the training advice I've looked at online says to 'keep your fan on maximum' when using a turbo trainer. I just leave the door open...
I've now got a little computer gizmo on the handlebars that tells me how far I've gone (useful), my cadence (how many times per minute my little legs are going round) and a bunch of other stuff that I'll probably never use. Apparently I should be able to cruise at 85 - 90 rpm for an hour or two without trouble. On Friday I did 10 miles at 90 (ish) rpm and today I did another 15 miles at the same cadence - or sometimes up to 120 rpm where my little legs were a blur:
My plan is to be doing 50 miles a week by the end of January, then 60 by the end of February and so on... I'll be doing 100 miles a week by the end of June, then I've got July to keep it going before RideLondon on 10th August. It's a plan!
I thought a calendar might help me record my progress so I toddled off down to one of the lovely cheap stores in Caerphilly where there was a vast selection including a spectacular one of majestic views and rousing phrases such as "Happiness depends on yourself" and "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them". It would obviously be just the thing to keep my training going.
So I bought the one with cupcakes on it instead...
