When I first announced on Facebook that I'd signed up for RideLondon 2014 Fit Mark posted this:
You will do what you always do - Follow a rigorous training and nutritional plan and arrive at the event fully prepared and at the peak of physical fitness. Oh sorry, I have mistaken you for someone else!
So I set out to prove him wrong - proper training, out on the roads every weekend, exercise bike in the week. And it was going so well... But this week it all fell apart for the following reasons:
1. Apathy: I could train tonight. Nah...
2. Procrastination: I'll train tomorrow when I have more time. Yeah, like that happened.
3. Tiredness: I worked all week solidly. 5 whole days plus evening webby stuff! Obviously I'm shattered.
4. Excuses: It's too wet, dark, slippery, hot, cold, sunny, cloudy, rainy, windy or foggy.
5. Strictly was on telly.
6. I haven't eaten enough.
7. I've eaten too much.
8. I haven't drunk enough.
9. I've drunk too much.
However, I'm planning to really get back into it this week and, with that in mind, I've spent today getting ready. That's 'getting ready' as in going out today with the Melodeon Master to a fabulous golden wedding celebration where I had two lunches, two puddings, two glasses of wine and two biscuits with my afternoon cup of tea.
That's proper nutrition, right?
Ha ha. Been there, still doing that! It's so much easier doing it tomorrow.
