And we ran home. Just 4k and I'm wheezing pretty badly, but it's running at least..
Freaky Running Dog was freaked out by the wind, the twigs, the leaves, the cold weather - everything. And she was wearing her new snuggly fleece too.
On Saturday I did my very first ParkRun at Tredegar House in Newport. Entirely for Freaky Running Dog's benefit - we thought the crowds, the dogs, the noise and all the new smells would be a Good Experience for her. There must have been 200 people collected to run - and about a dozen dogs.
I'd read all the blurb on the website about running with dogs so I knew I was meant to start at the back so as not to trip other people up.
Some of the other dog runners were more experienced - this dog was attached to his master by a belt - he knew ALL about the start, and made sure he was quick off the mark....
And we started more sedately at the back...
This is us at about 1.5k - still looking relatively calm, and Freaky Running Dog's coat being admired by a few spectators. At the speed I was going I'd thought she might get cold...
At 2k we got lapped, and at the turn for home after 4.5k I went for a sprint finish. I misjudged it - there were still about 400m to go, which is about 390m more than my sprint finish is good for. So we (OK, I) wheezed over the line...
I have no idea how the timing works, I had a barcode which I printed out and it got scanned after the finish. I forgot to start my clever watch thingy until 300m into the race, and I forgot to stop it until after I'd bent double, coughed a fair bit, wheezed a bit more, patted Freaky Running Dog and met up again with the Melodeon Master.
So my clever watch thingy gave me a time over the first 4k which I expanded to 5k and came up with about 36 minutes. And my official time was 36.07. Mo Farrah does it in 13 minutes.
I am convalescing.
