Runningin

You're right - that could say either 'running in' or 'running gin' which is probably more accurate as Derek the Decorator has called in tonight and we tested our sloe gin (decanted just today as we emptied out the damp larder for refurbishing) and then our sloe vodka, then his plum gin and whisky followed by his plum gin on its own so I am now ever so gently tiddly and not entirely sure what I'm talking about.

And it could be 'running in' because I've run twice this week - hooray!  On Tuesday I did a fast 4k (well, fast for me, slow for anyone else) with added hills.  At the time this felt fantastic and really good, but it had Repercussions.  As in seriously tight legs for the next three days.  So on Saturday I did a gentle 5.5k with added mud.  Lovely!  Super early in the morning, super fun.  So that's what running's meant to feel like!

I've also been hammering the heinous exercise bike and perfecting my front crawl.  'Perfecting' is perhaps a little strong.  'Surviving' might be closer.  I'm trying to fix up a swimming lesson to get it right but it seems to be taking a while...  However, when I'm running I'm finding that I'm fitter than ever, so something must be working.

And having found that lovely picture of the epic mud at Equinox, I emailed the people at the castle - there are more pictures!  I think this little lot gives a real flavour of the Scottish race.

"Shall I jump?"  (To Wee Gill who you can see lurking behind the trees on the left)

"YAY!"

"Oh boy that STINKS"

'I got mucky!"

'You wouldn't believe how MUDDY this is" (To the Melodeon Master who was standing on the bank)

Wee Gill decides not to jump...

Wee Gill:  "OMG this is so yucky"
Me:  "I know - isn't it BRILLIANT?"

Having been reminded how brilliant it was, I'm now busy looking around the house to see what I can flog to raise the money to go again in March.  Ooh, look, there's a melodeon...

  1. Sarah. If it's any help. When I do a longer run (anything over about 3 miles) I get back, do some stretches, run a cold bath and sit in it for 10 mins, before having my shower. It's not quite the ice bath that the marathon runners have but I have found that it helps a lot with tight legs the following days.

  2. Hi Mad Mick - and thank you! I had a nasty feeling that was what I should be doing! Somehow a hot bath is SO much more appealing! I will try it though - watch this space...
