You've got to love a list...

I sometimes wonder where the week or weekend has gone so this week I thought I would document our 'weekend list' so that I can see why I didn't do more on my bike...  Except of course I can't bike at the moment because my knee is still hamstrung, so it's just front crawl swimming.  Twice a day.  Then physio and chiro exercises.  I'm going to have lovely muscles.

So, the list...

Melodeon Master Haircut - we have clippers and I'm allowed to give him a No. 2 all over. Unless I get the wrong attachment when it starts out as a No. 1 at the back but he can't see it so that's ok.

Wash the Smart car - in the narrow lanes on Thursday I was forced into a muddy patch, slid spectacularly and basically thwacked mud all over the Smart.  It looked like it had been doing rally-cross which was impressive, but needed to be clean for....

Visit the Smart garage - My arrangement to have this Smart finishes in October so normally I'd just have another one.  Except it's a new model so we went to have a look. It's HIDEOUS. I'd seen photos, I'd been told it's not as ugly as the photos, so we needed to see for ourselves. It's MORE ugly. And lumpy. And large. What were they thinking??? Really don't want one of those, even if it's only on the principle that all cars are getting larger and lumpier and Smart, really, I thought you had more style. Cross, cross, cross. What other small car can I have?

Sort out the back of the Smart - Happy Running Dog normally sits in the front footwell, which was fine until Friday when she discovered that she could sit on the front seat and see out MUCH better. So with a bit of sorting out and the addition of a dog bed, we've arranged it so she can sit behind the seats, where there's plenty of room and she can look out. We were worried that she wouldn't like jumping in on the flat back (it flips down) but soon found that if sausage was involved she'd fly in without touching it. And she's very happy in the back as she can see both ways. Yay! Happy Car Dog!

Melodeon Master practice - contrary to what some people think, he actually does practice. In a shed in the garden (have you HEARD a melodeon close up?) so he needed to go to the shed and practice.

Sewing stuff - I needed to get the sewing machine out and do mending. Welly carriers, leggings, stuff like that. Not exactly haute couture, but at least my leggings don't fall down half way through dog training now.

Pasta machine - we wanted it to make icing ribbons for cakes, the photos looked good so we bought a pasta machine (thank you Amazon). We needed to try it out with a bit of icing, but after ten minutes fighting our way into the packaging, we looked at it, agreed it was 'too narrow' and packed it up again. Sigh.

Cake - the Aga was serviced on Friday which always alters the temperature and feel of it. So a practice cake was needed - one of my clients has just moved office, so it can be a 'Happy New Office' cake.

Cake again - last week we tried steaming icing (yes, really, you finish the cake by steaming it, weird or what?) and it worked very well (on some bits, not on others, duly noted) but when it was eaten the Melodeon Master thought the icing had gone soft. So now we've made another cake, we'll ice it, leave it the same length of time, not steam it and see what the icing is like. The Melodeon Master's office get to test it. They've learnt that if they say 'ooh, lovely' they don't get another one, whereas if they say 'not sure, maybe needs more vanilla/chocolate/lemon' they get a second cake. Clever office.

Gardening - we need to pick up twigs, pull up brambles and generally clear up the winter debris. Except it was too cold (it being winter) so we abandoned that one.

Photo Dog - good friends gave us a Wallace & Gromit lead and collar and now there's a Facebook competition to send in a photo of your dog wearing it and the winner will get a bunch of dog toys. Not that Happy Running Dog needs anything to make her happier, but she's very photogenic...

Yes, we did forget the lead.

Soup - we made soup. OK, the Melodeon Master made soup. I chopped the onions.

Walk Happy Running Dog - she had the Most Brilliant Walk Ever. We went to the grounds of Tredegar House which has woods, lakes, ducks (yay!), things to jump over and crash through, dogs to meet and people to greet. AND we took a tennis ball to hide so that she could 'seek' it. Brilliant.  And then she slept for the rest of the day - for the first time ever, we actually wore her out. Result!

And I really did swim twice a day. Apart from Wednesday and Thursday when work got in the way.

And Sunday evening, when gin got in the way.
