I read Mad Mick's very interesting blog this week - he's been laid up with a foot injury so not running. Then he thinks he's better and gets running. And he's faster... How does that work then? I'm also finding I'm enjoying running more the less I do, and I seem to be faster too. If I don't run ever again by the time I'm 60 I'll be Olympic champion - yay!
On the 'not training so much' front, I've not been swimming much because of this rib injury - front crawl is still painful, and breaststroke is not so good for my knees. Doggy paddle?
Cycling is still good, so on Wednesday I pedalled to Caerphilly to meet up with Sue and Flora. Sue lives in the local area and Flora is her totally delightful and extremely photogenic guide dog.
As you know, I am cycling RideLondon 2014 on behalf of Guide Dogs for the Blind, so thought it would help my fundraising if I could have a photo taken with a local guide dog and owner - and Sue very kindly came down to Caerphilly with her husband and Flora to pose for some pictures in front of the castle.
You're right - that's neither Sue nor Flora. I don't have the photos yet, but hopefully will by next week when I will also have set up my JustGiving page and go into committed fundraising mode - my aim is to raise at least £1,000.
It was extremely cold on Wednesday and my fingers froze. On the way home I took a swift detour into the bike shop and managed to mutter 'f-f-f-fingers f-f-f-freezing'. I was handed some amazing double gloves which were perfect - and also on sale, down from £39.95 to £14. Bargain! I bought the gloves and a new water bottle and then I had a look at a turbo trainer - it hooks up the back wheel of your actual bike and then you pedal without going anywhere. I could set up my road bike on it through the winter, put the cleat pedals back on and practice getting in and out of those too. I am writing very nicely to Father Christmas...
My aim is still to do a 50-mile bike ride before Christmas. I'm running out of days when I could do it, the weather seems to have turned and the days are so short. But at least my fingers will be warm...
