Ho Ho Ho!

IT'S CHRISTMAS!  Well, nearly, and I did dress up as Santa Claus this week...

On Tuesday I ran with Freaky Running Dog.  I was good (10k, including the Tardis, didn't stop, delighted) and Freaky Running Dog was dreadful - squeaking, freaking and whining.  Eventually it occurred to me that she might really be unwell and we headed for the vet.  Again.  She has muscle problems, is now on painkillers, has a hip x-ray booked for tomorrow and may need significant physiotherapy.  It seems I have managed to injure the dog while running too...

Today I dressed as Santa Claus.  Well, it was 1st December!  There was, luckily, a good reason for this - the annual Cardiff Santa Jog for the British Heart Foundation - Glam Kath had fancied it, so off we went.  Glam Kath had never run further than 2k, and it was a 5k run.  Eeek!

I had a Santa suit from doing this previously, so I wore it in the car down.  We walked to the park and - well, total lack of Santas.  I began to wonder if we were in the right place, on the right day, at the right time, then at last we saw just one more Santa.  He was similarly wondering if he was in the right place etc.  Phew.  We found the start which was right inside Cardiff Castle, Glam Kath picked up her Santa suit, and we duly posed for the 'before' photo:

There were about 150 Santas ready to run - and lots of lovely dogs too.  I had planned that Freaky Running Dog would accompany us in her new red fleece with a cute white furry collar, but given her muscle problems, she stayed home.

And off we went - started by Jamie Baulch, no less - into the park for three laps of a relatively small course.  I kept Glam Kath at a reasonable speed and told her when we were at 0.5k, 1k and so on.  And she ran, and ran, and ran - she didn't stop!  I was utterly gobsmacked, but she just kept going.  Towards the end of the third lap I realised that it was going to be a VERY short 5k.  More like 4.  Glam Kath said she was delighted it was short, and we kept going all the way to the finish.  We collected our medals, got our bottles of water, and then shared a piece of chocolate cake.  Yay!

Gutted that it was only 3.5k though.

It was only as we were walking back to the car that I realised my clever watch thingy is still in MILES not kilometres.  Doh.  That's the THIRD time I've made this mistake.  Doh again.  Turns out we'd actually done 5.6k!!  Glam Kath was utterly delighted, said I'd done it on purpose (I hadn't) and happily texted all of her mates.

So - result!  Glam Kath has just run her very first 5k (well 5.6 to be exact) and I can confirm that I have a memory like a colander.

What am I doing next week?
