On Monday I tried the 'exercise bike and swimming' combo again - well, not actually at the same time because I think the bike would rust, but exercise bike followed by a swim, and the ribs survived - hooray! On Tuesday I sensibly did nothing (apart from take Freaky Dog to the vets in the centre of town on Bonfire Night - stunningly good idea or what?) and then on Wednesday I did a mini-triathlon... Cycled 2k, ran 2k (I know - actual RUNNING), cycled 6k and swam for 15 minutes. Because I could.
The run was with Glam Cath in Machen - we've abandoned our Monday nights because it's just Too Damned Dark at 6.30pm. So we thought we'd try early Wednesday morning instead - at least it's daylight. We ran round the recreation ground in Machen - slowly - and she was gutted to find out it's only 0.6k all the way round. So then we did it again. 1.2k. And then I remembered I've switched my clever watch thingy to miles... oops. She was delighted! So that's 2k running then... progress! My foot was absolutely fine and it was lovely and grassy, so we were both happy bunnies. I then cycled back 'the long way' - up through the woods and, as it was piddling with rain, I went mud-hunting. I found some lovely puddles on the tracks and stayed off the really muddy stuff - another bang to the ribs could have been painful, so being sensible for a bit longer. Dull, but sensible. Still managed to get fairly muddy though!
On Friday I went running again! Twice in one week! I set off with Still Rather Freaky Running Dog with the aim of a gentle 4k run. Then once I'd run ALL the way up the ski field (so-called because it's steep enough to ski down if you had skis and snow) without having a heart attack I thought I might actually do 'quite a good time' so I pushed on. Brilliant idea - don't run for 4 months after breaking a bone in your foot and then hammer it second time out. Genius. Still - my foot is absolutely fine (and I'm happy to report that I did my route 5 minutes faster than the last time). By way of 'warming down' I swam for half an hour too. Lovely.
Stiff as hell on Saturday though...
