Just a week to go to the triathlon and training is going well.  Even twice a day on one occasion!  But it took me three days to recover so I figure, on balance, it wasn't such a bright idea...  I've decided the wetsuit is really too huge on my top half so I'm going to cut it at the shoulders and re-stitch it to make it about three inches shorter.  I watched The Great British Sewing Bee - it'll be fine.  No, they didn't actually cover 'altering wetsuits' but it's just sewing, right?

My toe (minus its corn) is now much better thank you.  The chiropodist advised using shock absorbers in the bottom of my shoes as I have Pronounced Metatarsals.  Eat your heart out, David Beckham...  So  in this morning's training session (10 minute swim, 5k flat out on the exercise bike, 2k uphill run) I tried them out.  Nice and squishy, admittedly, but they did rather seem to cut off all circulation to my toes...  Maybe not for the triathlon, eh?

And I had a birthday!  It's fine, I've been saying 'nearly 53' for so long now that it hardly hurts at all.  I received beautiful flowers, a new gilet and a fab spotty handbag, and the Melodeon Master came up trumps with olives, salami, beautiful Celt red desert boots and this:

Yep, a Water Jet Boots experience!  It'll be at Chepstow Quarry in July... I can't wait!!  I also can't think of anything more likely to make the newly stitched seams on my wetsuit explode...

By this time next week I'll either be celebrating or drowning my sorrows - I've given up wine for the last two weeks (apart from when Fit Mark and the lovely Lou popped round on the Bank Holiday Monday, on Wednesday because it was my birthday and on Friday when I was at a charity dinner because it would have been rude not to) so I'll have earned a glass by Sunday.  After the triathlon.

My previous time to beat is 1 hour 42 minutes and some seconds or other.

So, under 1.40 then?  Preferably without the brakes jammed on....
