Aw, bless...

As I may have mentioned some time ago, New Running Dog has Issues.  She doesn't like twigs, leaves, fields, mud, woods, loud noises... she's hypersensitive to almost everything really.  For most of this year she has been a bit of a nightmare behaviour wise - we've seen doggie psychologists and the vets repeatedly.

Last Sunday we saw another doggie psychologist, Anne.  She saw New Running Dog in full panic mode (the dog was panicking, not Anne) and we had a long, long chat.  When she arrived virtually the first thing Anne said (well, OK, after the usual 'hello' and 'how are you' stuff) was 'Your dog smells.'  We obviously apologised thinking it was the whole breaking wind thing but she said it was a fishy smell, indicative of an infection.  Anne suggested that we took New Running Dog to see her own vet.

So on Friday morning we did.

Within 4 hours Marple was undergoing emergency surgery for something called a 'stump pyometra' - an extremely nasty condition probably resulting from a botched spay operation done at the rescue centre 18 MONTHS AGO.

O.M.G.

This poor little dog has been struggling since January.  She's been in pain, full of infected tissue and could, at any time, have suffered a rupture and died.

No wonder she had issues.

She's now at home, slightly sore, desperately hungry and wondering why her tummy hurts.  She's clearly feeling better already and wants to bounce, but then that hurts so she cries.

We are simply amazed that in all this time, with all that pain, she's never once growled or threatened to bite anyone.

When she's feeling better we're going to train her to bite a few useless vets...
