On Wednesday New Running Dog and I headed for Rudry Common again... she still finds me dull to run with, so entertains herself with the 'wait a bit then run past' routine.
As we got to the steep rocky part I slowed up. (Yes, Fit Mark, I can run even slower than usual...) and New Running Dog was walking beside me.
Then she yawned. Actually YAWNED. I was sooooooooo insulted. Who needs Fit Mark's insults when one has a dog that YAWNS? Good grief.
On Friday morning Ice Cream Sian and I went out for a 10k muddy run including lots of hills - the best practice for the Mud Runner we can manage! New Running Dog came too - and didn't yawn this time. Phew.
The mud was fantastic. Serious recent rain and lots of mountain bikers = MUD! Absolutely brilliant, and just look at the state of our feet:

If there were qualifying photos required for the Mud Runner we'd be in without any problem...
New Running Dog and I ran up to Ice Cream Sian's house and back home again afterwards - 12.2k in all...
Just 9 hours after the muddy photo was taken I took another one of my feet:

See, I can do clean.
Sometimes.
After our 12k on Friday my knees were so stiff I made a very sensible decision (yes, ok, I'm a wimp) not to run at the weekend, as Ice Cream Sian and I have plans to run on Monday afternoon... So I swam a mile instead....
So, kilometres towards our target (which was 50k or 100k, depending on who set it...)
Ice Cream Sian: So far: 8k + 10k this week = 18k
Me: So far: 20.4k + this week's 5.4k + 12.2 = 38k.
We have THREE weeks before the Mud Runner. Eeek. I need to do at least 20k a week then...
And in case you were wondering, Fit Mark is still running - he's busy training properly (weirdly, the 'runs' that Ice Cream Sian and I do don't qualify as 'training) for the Sleep Walker - a 20mile night time run through the Brecon Beacons on the last Saturday in November.
Thank goodness he hasn't suggested we give it a go...
