Events... Abu Dhabi, anyone??

I'm planning my year of events. I haven't got very far... There's the postponed Christmas 2010 Santa Run next Sunday, then the Try-a-Tri in early May, the Cosmeston Sprint Triathlon (I won't be sprinting, I think that just means it's a short distance!) then Tri-for-Life in July which is at the same place as my triathlon last year.. and then nothing. I think I need more events.

I am seriously tempted by the 'Oblivion Mud Runner' on 8th May - described as a 'supreme test of endurance and fitness' complete with bits to swim and things to climb over. And it does happen to take place on my birthday.... I need to be able to run 6 miles first though... Guy thinks I'm mad...

And my brother has just come back from watching the Yas Marina Triathlon in Abu Dhabi (he was flying the plane for BA which is a Damned Fine Reason to be there). Apparently the swim was in the marina, the cycle was around the F1 track, the run was around the edge of the circuit and transition was in the pit lane! I said I fancied it for next year if he can smuggle me and my lovely bike on his aeroplane...

I've upped my 'training' so now I'm doing 10k on the exercise bike and a mile swim each day. Phew! Not running at all as my knees still protest, so I'm doing my old knee exercises (for my old knees) and tricking them into thinking they're not going to go running any more. Cunning or what?! They'll be fine for the Santa Run...

And a last thought - when I was creaking round Bute Park last Sunday I passed (she was going the other way, I've never actually overtaken anyone) by a young girl with a very blonde pony tail running very easily. Then a bit further on I passed her again. Blimey, I thought - she's doing laps a bit quick! Then I passed her again... On about the fourth 'pass' just when I was getting really depressed, I realised her jacket was a different colour... it was twins!!

If you fancy a laugh next Sunday do come and cheer me on at the Santa Fun Run. It's somewhere in Bute Park just off North Road at 12.30pm. We should be easy to spot - about 1,000 people in Santa outfits... Or 999 people in ordinary running gear and me in my Santa suit...

And one very last thing... if anybody watches Pobol Y Cwm (anybody?) look out for a pink handbag cake at the 18th birthday party with a 'Sex and the City' theme. Should be the episode on Thursday or Friday. Guy and I made the cake, and it's going to start a food fight. Although probably not on its own, I suspect an actor may be involved...
