Because I nearly did it again this morning.... I've had physio on my leg this week - it turns out to be a 'groin strain' despite the fact that it's nearer my knee. No, I'm not the weirdest anatomically put together person in the history of mankind, it's apparently my adductor muscle (not the Sagittarius, or whatever it was) that goes from my pelvis to my knee, and it's my knee end I've stuffed. Hurt. Pulled. Whatever. Anyway, technically it's a groin strain...
So after two sessions of physio with the lovely Steve who is kind enough not to laugh at a middle aged triathlete (and even said this injury was a 'proper runner's injury!) I went out for a tentative run this morning. I swam first to loosen everything up, then did some stretches, then set off v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. It was fine! Hooray! Up past Sian's ice-cream parlour (opening in December, must remember to take money so I can have an ice-cream whilst running), over the stile and down through the wood. Yep, that's where it went TWANG! There are loose stones, leaves and a steep downhill. So the way to do in your adductor muscle is to step on a stone which you can't see because it's covered in leaves, then it rolls down the hill, you over-stretch and TWANG! I know this is how it works because I think I've done it again... It was really so
very slippery that I chickened out of the rest of my 'through the woods' run and instead carried on back to the main road and came back on the pavement. And I was fine. Until I stopped, and now my leg is really sore... so I'm sitting at the computer reeking strongly of Deep Heat and with a hot water bottle clamped between my knees. Sexy. Dead sexy.
The 5k Santa Run is now only two weeks away. Eek! All the entry blurb arrived yesterday, together with my Santa Suit. It's big. As in BIG. One size fits none, and all that...
And the British Heart Foundation do seem rather keen on sponsorship, so you will see the lurking Just Giving page on the right with a big fat '0' in the amount. As it's only 5k I am aiming to raise just £50 this time. That's £10 per kilometre... If you are feeling truly generous, thank you!
Before I realised I'd done my leg in again, there was something that struck me about my run this morning, and I'm going to say it very quietly....
I almost enjoyed it...
