We left the house at 9.15, having washed a car, made an icing table, been out to get papers and eggs and forgotten to eat breakfast (first time ever - what's that about? I NEVER forget to eat...) We went to Costco, Hobbycraft, IKEA (bought candles) and whizzed into the Cardiff Harbour festival again just in case a certain stall was there (it wasn't). Bought fantastic Italian chocolate stuff, then home again for 1 o'clock.
I rang the bike hire shop in Windsor - the one that's close to the event site. Yes, they have hire bikes. They're mountain bikes. Oh, and they're rubbish. Think again... I'd emailed the Tri for Life organisers about the bike problem, so I rang the 'if you've got any problems ring us' numbers too. Then Guy and I looked at bike racks on line - the Smart one is definitely ugly and definitely £400. Not something to rush in to. There are (allegedly) racks for the Fiat 500 but we're not sure they'll fit. So we went to Halfords. Spoke to a nice man who looked at the car. Nope, they won't fit.
These are the options we're currently considering:
Ask organisers to find me a bike to ride. Two organisers have now phoned me back and they're trying to come up with something. Really helpful guys - I am hopeful!
Could borrow bike from good friend Auri who has kindly offered to lend me hers.
Could hire bike I've been hiring already and take front wheel off to put it in the Fiat.
Could hire bike I've been hiring already and take front wheel off to put in Mum's Polo.
Could hire bike I've been hiring already and borrow Auri's husband's bike rack and put it on Mum's Polo.
Could borrow bike rack from my brother (his lovely wife offered it) but it's near Newbury and there isn't time to go and get it.
Could have a large gin and tonic...
And that's about where we are. After the futile visit to Halfords we came home and did more cake stuff - we played with the lighting up candelabra on the opera cake and managed to short it but then decided it will be ok without the lights. We got the sound card working and buried in the wall, we added curtains to the backdrop, we made the base, we added labels and caps to the wine bottles and we planned out the two grooms. I've received another £70 in sponsorship (THANK YOU!), Guy walked Blunkett and collected mushrooms and I did 10k on the exercise bike. And my knee exercises. Twice.
It's been a nice day not doing much...
