DIY Tri

Today I was entered for a triathlon at the Olympic Rowing Lake at Dorney near Windsor.

I didn't go.  Well, as I haven't cycled or run and only swum a little in the last two weeks, it really seemed a bit pointless to drive all the way to Windsor to not do a triathlon very well.

So I did one at home instead.

Swimming for 12 minutes at 750 PSI did me well over 400 metres (and I didn't have to struggle with a wetsuit), then 35 minutes flat out on the turbo trainer covered the 13 miles....

And then the run.

As Freaky Running Dog needed a walk and the Melodeon Master and I had Other Things To Do in the day, I decided that she could come with me on the 5k run.  All was well for the first 2k, through fields, past the bluebells, smelling the wild garlic, blue skies, newly mown haylage fields, gorgeous.

Then she freaked and we went home.  Sigh.  We'd done about 3k, so I was a couple of k short of a tri...

It was, however, huge fun, all done before breakfast and it may yet become a regular Sunday feature - yay!

And it was encouraging that I'm not as unfit as I thought, given that I haven't trained in any way for two weeks, have consumed almost my entire body weight in chocolate and done my level best to drink Caerphilly dry...
