Oops!

I said proper training would start on Monday.  It did!

I ran with Freaky Running Dog - a very quick 4.5k just to see if my legs still worked and my knee held up.  Everything seems to be in working order, and I'm definitely running quicker than I used to.  Probably something to do with knees not hurting and actually working properly.  Whatever the reason, it makes running rather fun!  On the way home we sat in the river for a bit and heard the local farmer drive past in his tractor.  When we emerged we found that he'd left the gate to The Big River Field open, so of course we just had to run alongside the wood where we're not really meant to be.  I could see that he'd put fertiliser down and as the tractor noise grew louder again, it occurred to me that he'd gone back to refill the hopper and was on his way back.

Do you know, it's really quite surprising how fast one can run with the prospect of a slightly irate farmer appearing behind one...

Freaky Running Dog has, not surprisingly, undergone something of a character shift since losing her companion.  Is she moping, missing her and worrying even more?  Nope.  She has gained confidence, is enjoying life and is behaving like a proper dog including doing proper dog things like rolling in fox poo.

She may have to be renamed Stinky Running Dog.

On Tuesday I cycled on the heinous exercise bike and swam.  I hear from Pedalling Paula that she's done 30 miles in a bike ride.  I did 7.5k.  Oh dear.  Two weeks today for the 35 mile bike ride.  It'll be fine.  It'll be fine.  It'll be fine.

On Thursday I ran again with Stinky But Not So Freaky Running Dog and we ended up sitting in the river which is on Fit Mark's running route to work.  He duly passed us, we (ok I) shouted hello and he he said hello back very politely before realising it was me.  We had a bit of a chat about how he melted his headphones running in the heat of France on holiday (that's a holiday?) and he went off again.

The Melodeon Master and I were, this week, also completing a wedding cake for Phil and Linda's wedding - good friends and our wedding present to them.  We were a teensy bit ambitious, so we spent four hours working on it on Thursday night, and another three on Friday.  After working all day.  By Saturday morning we were so tired that all thoughts of training went out of the window.  We had a relatively quiet start and then headed, with assembled three tier cake, to the venue to set it up.

Oops.

It just slid as we went up a hill (now obviously called Cake Hill) and fell over with a remarkably small THUD.  We surveyed the damage and then panicked.  Seemed entirely reasonable.  Eventually we decided to carry on with the remnants and fix it at the venue.  We stopped at a florist on the way and bought blue hydrangeas (the theme of the wedding) which we thought might help hide the damage, and at a Spar to get icing sugar to make more glue.

The venue staff were brilliant (The Gate, Cardiff - thank you!) and helped with carrying bits, supplying bowls, trays, knives, hot water and moral support.

After an hour we'd made new balls, propped the back up on a ramekin, glued everything to within an inch of it's life and pointed the best bits at the front.   We'd fixed it!  And hidden the smashed back with the blue hydrangeas.

We did, however, miss the wedding ceremony.  We didn't think anyone would notice - they all did, and apparently the rumour was that we'd dropped the cake.

As if...
