It's been a week since the 'brakes-on-Tri' and I've very nearly stopped sulking... Still can't believe I did it. Soooo stupid. So I've been looking for another triathlon to do this year - and I'm not making much headway. Found a lovely one in Portishead in Bristol (nice and local) but then I looked at the photos and everybody in it looks like a professional. I'd be finishing about an hour after them.... And then there's another one at the Cotswold Water Park (water, swimming, good) but it starts at 7.30am on a Sunday morning on the same day that we have tickets for Dolly Parton in the evening... 5am leaving the house, anyone coming to watch? So I've decided I'll make my own triathlon... I can swim here, find a 20k route on the bike which Guy has promised to accompany me on in case I fall off (or do something stupid like, oooh, jamming the brakes) and then I can run from here too. Sorted. And there is another race I'm going to enter.... but more about that another day when I've practised a bit. And the Mud Runner Classic in October...
So, official results. Hmmm. There were 43 in my class and after the swim I was 26th. After the cycle I was 34th and that's where I stayed... 3 people gave up on the run, which at least I didn't do. My official time was 1 hour 46 minutes 59 seconds. Hey ho. However, I was the only female over 50 competing in any race so I'm quite chuffed about that. Maybe everybody else over 50 has more sense?
And the photos...
I rather like this one of me coming out of the water because (a) it proves I did the swim and (b) by half way up the blue lake exit runway I've raised my goggles and got my arms halfway out of the wetsuit - proper triathlon transition! I may have to buy an off the shoulder evening frock after seeing this. Although I probably wouldn't swim in it.

And here's a nice cycling one. I'm smiling, so this is after I'd released my brakes. Evidently 'before the brakes' I looked a little cranky...

And, no, you're not going to get one of me running. They're horrible. My hair sticks up (so what's new) and I'm an interesting shade of puce.
We're still watching the Tour de France (trying to pick up hints and all that - I think I need one of those mechanics cars following me though) and am hugely impressed by the advertising that they have on their bottoms. There was even somebody at the Open Golf this week with advertising on the back of his troosis. I think this is something I could pursue...
Although I can imagine what Fit Mark would think I should have written on my backside...
SLOW - PLEASE PASS....
