Ouch!

On Friday Ice Cream Sian and I went out for 5k. Or it was meant to be 5k until Ice Cream Sian said 'let's do the Tardis' at which point it immediately became 10k. Or it would have been except I got the ending wrong so it was 10.5k. I really should use a map. Or put ribbons round the trees... Anyway, Ice Cream Sian was amazing and simply ran up the Tardis in one go. No stopping! I stopped about 5 or 6 times - rubbish really but I'm still getting back to fitness after my long layoff. And my left knee is still complaining - on the inside this time, which at least is a change, but with painkillers and anti-inflammatories really it's fine.

And today it was the 'old firm' back together again - we started at my house at 7.30am, with Fit Mark saying he'd had a stomach bug for two days, and Ice Cream Sian having been up all night with one of the children being sick... so it was only me who was fit then. I did half an hour of knee stretching and warming up exercises just to make sure.... and then gave up through pain at 1.85k. OUCH. After some kind words (Ice Cream Sian - she is so NICE) and some sensible advice along the lines of 'you don't want to run on that' from Fit Mark they went on, whilst I phoned Guy who came and picked me up. Again. I'll get some more physiotherapy tomorrow - I have them on speed dial! Come to think of it, they may be able to retire soon on the amount they're making from me at the moment.

By the time Fit Mark and Ice Cream Sian arrived back at my house 12k and some serious hills later, I had my leg elevated, iced and rested whilst working with the laptop on my knee. It sounds like they had a fab time, and they've each promised to write a bit for the blog on the basis that I can't because I wasn't there. I'm particularly looking forward to Ice Cream Sian's account of Fit Mark telling her about his friend who was employed to fish dead bodies out of caves after cave-diving expeditions because if you go with a friend and they get into trouble apparently the rule is that you carry on otherwise you'll both be dead. Nice. And obviously a comfort to Ice Cream Sian as they trudged their way around the local quarry...

And I have a PLAN. Given that my knee is better when (a) elevated and (b) packed with ice, I am going to invest in an old-fashioned bath chair so that I can keep my knee both elevated and iced, and either Fit Mark or Ice Cream Sian can push it!

I haven't told them about it yet, but I'm sure they'll love it!
