One teensy problem - the distance vision is rubbish. Anything further than 10 feet away is a blur, which is actually worse than my normal vision. But I can see my running watch! And how much do you need to see when running badly anyway? As long as I can see the direction I'm meant to go in...
When I was having them fitted the optician and technician were giving me dire warnings about how NOT to swim in them, even with goggles, so I was having visions of trying to put lenses in during transition from swim to bike. Bad idea, especially given this morning's efforts to poke the things in (10 minutes and a lot of cursing). But then I googled 'triathlon contact lenses' and found all sorts of lovely forums about how, yes, it's fine - just wear good goggles, try not to cycle into a headwind and blink a lot if you get grit in your eye. And one lovely story from a lady who's the World Champion Ladies Triathlon something or other who is apparently incredibly short sighted - she said they put a table out after the swim section for people to put their glasses on but she couldn't even find the table... Anyway, she now competes in lenses and it's fine. Although they can get blown out on the bike section...
I have had a very lazy week, training wise. A combination of long working days, tiredness and a general 'it's cold, it's dark, it's winter, where's my cocoa?' feeling meant that I didn't touch the bike or the pool at all. However, I am now back to the '10k exercise bike, mile swim' routine, and also had a long dog walk today. I do feel better for it... And today, for the first time, I did the whole 10k on the exercise bike WITHOUT stopping. And in a personal best time of 25 minutes. Hooray!
Now all I have to do is crack the running... My nephew Charly has suggested that I do the Bristol 10k with him in May. I have pointed out that this is twice as far as my knees already say is Too Far, but he seems very keen.
And he's running it dressed as a crocodile...
