Guy also found out that one of his work colleagues has a husband who is a keen triathlete and can tell me where to go for running shoes, wetsuits, everything I need! Last night Mark (the fit neighbour who's doing the Coast 2 Coast this weekend in Devon) came round with a bottle of wine as he'd borrowed the pool a few times (excellent swap, can't fault it!) and we talked training, and water bottles (the sort that don't knock your front teeth out when you're running) and wetsuits and front crawl... as you do. We'll come to some arrangement where he can use the pool as long as he helps me learn how to run. And swim in a wetsuit. And change gears on the bike... I think I'll be getting the better end of the deal!
And because I'm not now doing another 'tri' until next year, this blog is going to be probably once a week. Otherwise I'll be getting into the territory of 'swam before work, cycled after' (see above!). Which isn't very exciting...
But there are a few goals for the winter:
1. Lose weight - after all, this is how I got started!
2. Investigate wetsuits and learn how to swim in one. Also learn how to do front crawl without drowning.
3. Practice cycling on proper roads on a real bike. Using the gears.
4. Keep up the knee exercises!
5. Learn how to run...
6. Plan next year's tri campaign. One a month? With a few cycle races and a couple of 10k runs thrown in?
And the sponsorship money is STILL coming in - thank you to everyone who has donated this week, another £30 I wasn't expecting! At this rate we may hit £600 which is amazing. The organisers were hoping to raise £200,000 and have gone past £220,000, so they are VERY pleased with everyone who has so kindly and generously donated.
THANK YOU!
