For a start, I was the oldest person in my race - the ONLY person over 50! So perhaps 'bonkers' was right...
My swim time was 8.32 (minutes) and I was 25th out of 64. Not as bad as it felt! The fastest swim time was 5.24 - how did she do that?
My first transition took 3.50 - and I reckon at least 1 minute of that was trying to get my left leg out of the wetsuit - it got stuck!
My bike time was 50.16 for the 12 miles, and the fastest time was 36. I came 34th in this leg - weird, because I thought I'd done quite well! Looking back, lots of people did pass me at the beginning before I got my gears sorted, although I was picking them off in the headwind part of the course towards the end of the bike ride.
Transition 2 was 1.45 - not bad, although I could probably save time by not dithering! Next time (hah - next time!) I'll know that all I have to do is dump the bike and the helmet and start running...
The Run. Yes, well, I knew this wouldn't be quick! I was 60th out of 64! My time was 38.18, the fastest being 22. I can improve on that...
So, for the next one (which will now be next year), all I have to do is learn how to swim in a wetsuit, practise the gears on the bike and actually do some running, and I'll be up with the (much younger) leaders next year.
Competitive? Me? Not at all...
